Social networking. Everyone says you need to do it, but with what content? Scott asserts that just about everyone is doing too much selling. He suggests a 85/10/5 percentage split between sharing and engaging in non-original content, original content and promotion.
Here's a summary of his breakdown and how to do it:
85%: Sharing and Engaging
Scott recommend that 85% of all your social interactions should be one's of other's creation. This means commenting on another accounts content, quoting someone else, responding to another's post, retweeting or reposting a majority of the time. This is the simplest and most neglected aspect of social media account of businesses, according to Scott. Remember, people want to be engaged, heard, and involved.
10%: Original Content
Scott recommends 1 in 10 social interactions to be original content. Posting a photo you took, your blog post, original tweet or video all count as original content sharing if you created it. Remember to create and share relevant content, or content that is helpful to your audience. People want to be inspired and educated.
5%: Promotion
This is where you get to promote your cause. Scott says 1 in 20 interactions social interactions can be a promotion of a product, discount, etc. People want more than advertisements, so when you are promoting, choose wisely as the opportunities are limited.
In summary, focus on sharing and engaging with existing conversations and content. Be engaged with the market and your audience. Make your original content and promotion postings count when you use them. And always remember your buyer and your brand.
